We were blessed to have 75 loving volunteers who demonstrated how to be
“light bearers” to the 34 children attending camp that year. Together they lived out the words found in our memory verse from 1 Peter 2:9…
“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”

The children who attended camp were told in countless ways that they are valuable, special, worthy, and loved. One camper’s story illustrated that our kids were learning how to pass that love onto others around them.
CAMP SOTO: Roderick had some struggles with anger and sadness at the beginning of camp because he had attended Racine’s RFK camp the previous year and wanted to stay near the friends he remembered. In the craft area, the activities team took extra time with Roderick and helped him create a “God’s eye.” He became an expert at making this special craft! He truly shined and had a great week at camp as he continued to use his talent to make 51 of these beautiful masterpieces! But instead of keeping them for himself, he gave them to everyone in his cabin and other people that were dear to him at camp. In fact, he gave every single one of them away and didn’t even keep one for himself. Roderick became a light bearer too!
We would be remiss if we did not mention that we tragically lost one of our former campers this year, a wonderful young man named Prestin. This loss was profound because he and his siblings had been attending our camp for a number of years. We were able to minister to this family in their grief, and presented them with gifts including a remembrance blanket and photo albums of Prestin’s time at camp. They were so grateful for our support. This tragedy emphasized the impact our ministry is making in the lives of both the children and families that we serve.
